Going for Gold Training Camp 2024

Special Guest Coaches:

Give athletes an unparalleled opportunity to train with premier elite coaches. During this 3-day camp, athletes will enhance skills and improve artistry in all four events, preparing for the upcoming season. Coaches are invited to accompany their gymnasts free of charge and learn new skills and drills to take back to their gyms.

Event Details:

  • Dates: August  22-24th
  • Time: 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM 
  • Lunch Break: 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM (Bring your own lunch)
  • Cost: $550 Special Rate for Inaugural Year (Includes Camp Leotard)
  • Early Registration: $25-50 Team Practice Credit if registered by July 22nd. (Alpha Only)

Coach Hai Ou Sun

  • Former gymnast with the Chinese National Gymnastics Team
  • Former Chinese National Team Coach
  • Current Coach at WOGA
  • Over 20+ years of coaching experience
  • Coached gymnast Skye Blakely at the 2022 World Championship, helping Team USA win Gold and secure a spot for the 2024 Paris Olympics

  • Chinese National Team (1993-1995)
  • China National Team Coach (2007-2010)
  • Head Coach of Singapore National Team (2010-2013)
  • Current Head Coach of Alamo Gymnastics Club since 2013
  • Led the club to multiple championships, including the 2018 Western National Gymnastics Champion for Women's Floor
  • Coached US Men's National Team member Blake Sun (2021-2023)

Nola Ayres


  • BA, MA in Secondary Education
  • Ph.D. in Educational Sports Psychology/Mental Training

Professional Experience:

  • Clinician since 1997, specializing in critiquing gymnasts' routines and mental training for peak performance.

Judging & Coaching Highlights:

  • 39 years as an active Washington state judge with a National rating, also rated in Elite Compulsories, College, Tops, and High School.
  • Judged at JO Nationals, Westerns, and Regional Championships.
  • 38 years as a collegiate judge, including NCAA Conference and Regional Championships.
  • Clinician and presenter at numerous state and regional events since 2000.
  • 32 years teaching in the Bellingham School District.
  • 24 years coaching gymnastics, with 22 state championships and a 386-1 win/loss record.
  • Provides mental training and critiques for gymnasts from developmental levels to college.

NAWGJ & USAG Experience:

  • NAWGJ WA State Judging Director (2000-2012), coordinated judges' education.
  • Member of the NAWGJ WA Committee (1988-1994).
  • Organizer and assistant for the National Judges Cup in Seattle.
  • USAG WA Committee member (2000-2017), education representative, and congress coordinator.
  • Assisted in coordinating volunteers for the Pacific Rim Games (2012, 2016) and worked at the Goodwill Games (1990) and World Championships (1991).
